BEEN MIA

Sorry guys, I have been missing quite a while, and it still doesn't look like I'll be back anytime soon.
We recently just moved back to our house in Pennsylvania, so betweeen moving, unpacking, and intermittent internet access, i was mia. Now my latest adventure is now, I have the shingles. I am in terrible pain and just taking things one day at a time. I'll be back as soon as I am well again. Keep on knitting for the rest of you!

A Shrug for Evelyn -FO

Ok, I just completed a shrug for Evelyn (my daughter) the other day. But, in fact, it wasn't intended for her :( I found the Shrug This pattern (from 101 One Skein Wonders) and I loved it and it was simple, and would be my first attempt at raglan sleeves. Perfect. Let's do it.
Well I decided to use some yarn that was gifted to me from my Mother in law that is absolutely fantastic. The problem was I couldn't figure out what weight it was. It came from Peru, and I guess their labeling is different, it didnt say recommended needle size or anything! It looked like it was worsted to me but I wasn't sure. But I decided to use it anyway and I cast on.

About halfway through I start realizing that maybe this will be a little snug. So I figured, "Hey no problem, if it doesn't fit me, I can always give it to_____" (my 12 year old neice). Awesome, her birthday is coming up and its perfect. So I kept going.
When I completed it, it looked small but I was like maybe I can fit into it. Well *insert buzzer here* NOPE! Too small. Then I figured wait a minute this may be too small even for my neice. So, I tried it on my daughter Evelyn who is only FIVE, and it fits her so beautifully. What happened? What in the world went wrong. So was the yarn really DK? Would it really have made that much of a difference????? I'm puzzled.... To go from supposedly fitting an adult to a 5 year old?

So what the lesson here is, and correct me if I'm wrong, is I should really check my gauge before I jump into projects. But knowing how much smaller it came out than intended, I wonder how many swatches I would have went through before getting it right? And that is why I don't do them in the first place. lol. But at least this time, I had someone to give it to.

Anywho- here it is :)- I'll have to take a picture of her in it .

Second Shower down!

Although,I wasn't able to attend :( I really hurt my back that day (28th) and I was really upset, because I was really proud of this cardigan. My husband found a set of vintage books from 1963 meant to be a guide to Homemakers lol. There is a book about throwing great parties, planning a wedding, how to nutritionally feed your family, money management, and on and on. Its a set of like 10 books. One of the books is on Knitting, Crochet and Embroidery! So I found this pattern, its the Baby Jacket with Hood. But I improvised by using my new wonderful crochet skills, to simple crochet along the neck edge! Cool huh? I know, I'm easily amused!
So Baby Shower 3 is on March 22. I realize that I probably won't have time to complete the Pinwheel Blankie and I'm bummed about it. *sigh* Oh well, I'll have to find something else that's cute! Its a boy and I know it will be red, (the mom-to-bed loves red ). So we shall see.

Ok back to knitting

Ok, so I'll be attending Baby Shower Number #2 on February 28. Yeah I know, not much time, but I'm making a hooded sweater for the baby and I'll be making another diaper wreath for this one as well.

Then Baby Shower #3 is on March 22nd. Much more time. I'm hoping to actually do the Pinwheel Blanket for that one. But we will see how that goes! I may betoo ambitious for my own good. LOL But that's ok, I aim high!

Calorimetry

Thanks Susan, for the wonderful wool you've bestowed upon me! lol I finished the Calorimetry and I've just got to weave in the ends and get the button sewn on! Woohoo! Here are some pics:

I love how this came out. I only casted on 96 instead of what the pattern called for and only 13 repeats of the short row section. :) Came out beautifully! Hopefully I'll get it finished up soon and do some modeling for ya :)

Ok, so here are the pictures of the Gifts. I also have the ones of the bear on my Ravelry - because he is modeling the Minty-Fresh Vest LOL. So here is the bear wearing the vest! He looks lovely doesn't he? The booties that I made didn't fit the bear so I kinda just rubber banded them on him :)

Here is the finished product of the Diaper Wreath: I think its pretty good for my first time, huh?

And here is what it looked like with just the diapers and the ribbons tied on. Ok so now i have to get started on baby shower number 2!

First shower down!

Yesterday was Melissa's Shower- Unfortunately, I didn't upload the pics of the gifts I made yet, I'll update with them soon. I wound making the Pebble Vest and matching baby booties .

I also made her a diaper wreath- my first one ever and it came out Fan-frickin'-tastic! (Of course, if I do say so myself!) So esy and everone loved it! So I bought a teddy bear to put the vest and booties on so I can gift it that way. It was really rather cute!
I'm so glad that was a success, and now its onto Erica's shower. I have to figure out what to make for that!

ok change of plans ...

So yesterday I got an invitation to Melissa's Baby Shower and its February 1st! AHHHH So, a change of plans is in order. I am planning to knit as many things in a month (actually less) as I possible can. Then closer to the date I'll be making a diaper wreath! Easy. So far I've got a washcloth on the needles. I really wanted to make the garter stitch ruffles blankie and I will get the needles I need for that today after work! FUN! I am going to do the blankie, and get as much washcloths and burp cloths I possible can finished and I'll just attached them to the diaper wreath when I'm ready to do that. Awesome!

Then you figure, Erica's baby shower will probably be actually one month from Melissa's- So I'll probably just end up doing the same thing!
